Chart Analysis
As the growth of social media has skyrocketed in the past decade, it has provided a useful medium for people that are underrepresented to voice their opinions on topics that affect our country. Although when one group of people gain more representation another group often feels like they are losing relevance in our country. The chart below shows the differences of opinions on representation through various groups of people.

On major trend that I noticed was that in the possible positive impact section of the graph, black people feel like they are gaining representation and a well deserving spot in social media. For instance 78% of black people that responded to the survey said that social media helps give a voice to underrepresented groups. There are often many topics that revolve around a certain group of people that is not shown by local news media stations. This can make groups of people angry but with social media, this has changed quite dramatically.
Another opposite trend that I noticed was that in the same impacts section, white people answers reflected of what I stated earlier. Many white people feel that as groups of minorities gain representation, some groups of white people have began to feel less relevant. Sometimes often feel like the issues that apply to them are not well represented in the media. This is reflected where the white respondents had 61% of them say that social media has helped give a voice to underrepresented groups. While a 17% difference may not seem like a lot, this still shows the difference in opinion when it comes to representation.
These patterns are both connected because as one group of people appears to be more relevant in the media another group feels like they becoming underrepresented. While groups of minority people are still underrepresented in mainstream media, social media is pushing for the opportunity to give a voice to those groups.
Political parties are groups of people that the same interest in terms of government policy. They can declare candidates that can for office in the different stages for the government. The main purpose of a political party is to make sure that many of their candidates get into office in order to shift policy into their favor.
Looking back at the 2018 midterm elections, this can provide a clear visual for how political parties are supported and voted on by the people and where exactly do political parties will have the most influence.

The visual above represents how the race for the senate turned out. Starting with the Red States, there is more Republican influence and voters. This is more prevalent in the rural states such as North Dakota, Nebraska, and Texas. As opposed to more coastal states such as Washington, California, and New York that has more Democratic influence and voters.

While the Republican party took the Senate, the Democratic Party took control of the House of Representatives. While this visual may seem confusing as there is more red than blue. Keep in mind that the House is made up of proportional population. In turn would mean that states with a higher population will have more representatives in the house. The Democratic party had more influence in cities and states with a higher population count such as California.
Political parties have influence all over our country in order to control more over the government and create policies that will side with their supporters.
